Neuroborreliosis is a well-known and commonly-used medical term in Europe for Late-Stage Tick Borne Disease. Neuroborreliosis, also known as the Lyme Borreliosis Complex (see Jemsek) or MSIDS Multi-Systemic Infectious Disease Syndrome (see Horowitz) is also inexplicably and more controversially known in America as Chronic Lyme Disease, or less accurately known as PTLD or Post-Treatment Lyme Disease.
Borrelia Burgdorferi is the name given to one of many bacteria transmitted by ticks, with co-infections such as Babesia, Bartonella, Erlichia, Tularemia, Powassan, and Relapsing Fever to just name a few, also transmitted by ticks and other vectors such as biting flies, horseflies, fleas, mosquitos, sand flies and more. The name Borrelia Burgdorferi is supposed to have originated from Willy Burgdorfer who studied this. You can read about it here in this article about a mysterious Swiss Agent and some history about this troublesome bacteria. The scientific Latin names of Borreliae are fascinating as there are thought to be dozens of Borreliae species and strains, something like 100+ or more worldwide not to mention Rickettsias and other common co-infections (because ticks most often carry several co-infections and/or bacteria, fungus, virus, nematode). This website will hopefully give you, the reader, some more information about this disease, delivered in an informative and easy to read fashion.
This website is designed to give users this information about Borrelia Burgdorferi and related tick-borne illnesses, often referred to interchangeably as Neuroborreliosis, Borreliosis and the various stages of Lyme Disease, which if left untreated leads to meningitis, encephalitis, systemic nerve, motor, brain, GI tract and other problems in a similarly devastating way as it’s more well known older “sexy” cousin, Syphilis. It is a place on the Internet to discuss and inform people about Neuroborreliosis, Alzheimer’s Borreliosis (See Dr. AB MacDonald) Lyme Borreliosis Complex (see Dr. Jemsek) and MSIDS (see Dr. Horowitz), also known as Lyme Disease, TBI’s (Tick Borne Infections), TBD’s (Tick Borne Diseases) and to serve as a handy directory to links that may help sufferers and their families, and in its best iteration and incarnation help academics, clinicians and medical personnel gain a better understanding of it.
It is not meant as a comprehensive reference just a handy repository of relevant links and articles that will hopefully educate, inform and entertain. There are many sources on the Net for Lyme Disease and tick borne related illness including forums and groups, one of the best websites is LymeDisease.Org as well as countless scientific papers.
Please. Enjoy.
