Exercise

Here’s the funny thing about this disease. We’ve all heard that exercise is universally good for you and you can never get enough of it, short of over-exertion or exercise anorexia or some other disorder. But Lyme Disease is unique in that cardio vascular intense exercise is not recommended, or should rather be avoided in favor of pilates, yoga, light stretching and light weight training. This isn’t a science site but I believe Burrascano has advised this. If I recall correctly the type of exercise to do should be just enough to get your antiobiotics circulating but not so much that your body is aggressively going through a herx reaction which is likely caused by the inundation of oxygen to a fiercely anaeorobic bacteria. In short, you will agitate and kill off these bugs by raising your temperature and heart rate which may lead to a dangerous flare up we all should know is: a Herx reaction. You can get one even from a very hot shower. Take a few wind sprints or a vigorous jog in the park can leave you with some intense symptoms which are better taken care of indoors.

So yes, exercise but don’t overdo it. Antibiotics need to circulate. But only do as much as your body can take. (I’m paraphrasing from expert doctor advice.)

And even more so than proper nutrition (which is essential) is the best antidepressant and mood lifter known to man and that is:  Exercise. And yes it will improve your mood but as mentioned above just stick with yoga and stretching and avoid strenuous intense cardiovascular. Well this is what I’ve heard from many sources.

Exercising just a little bit every day will improve your mood greatly.  Even 15 minutes of light walking or yoga will help your mood immensely.  So get up away from your computer and go outside and move around, get your blood flowing. If not find a space to just stretch and breathe indoors.  Your health and mood will improve.

But remember it’s necessary to pace yourself, give yourself time to heal, sleep and recover.
